Yesterday my new Wiley X sunglasses, starter relay, and cheekpads for the XD3 arrived. Still have to  pick up cheek pads..

Oh, and the Challenger ear buds arrived too - too bad they don't fit worh a shit. A total waste of money.sad

FJRed is having a  tech day at his house - before the weenie roast / bon fire. He PM'd me today will send his addie so I can get there and change oil in KrZy8. What a nice offer from a comlete stranger. The world really is a good place..

If you'd like, I can pick up oil (and a filter) for you and have it here.  You can pay me when you get here.  Do you have a particular flavor of oil that you prefer?  I've always used Golden Spectro 20w50.

Ed.[/quote]

Ed, picking up oil and filter would be GREAT. I normally use Delo 15/40 or Shell Rotella SynT. I sure do appreciate your effort for me..

New iggie relay installed. She sounds great. I'm getting nervous now.. longest ride of my life starts next Thursday. woot fucking woot!

Today is the day!

Am I there yet? Well? I have to pee. Really.
Slight detour back to Hondarosa to fix water issue...

Las Vegas at 5pm.. should be fun! :yahoo:

Click on pix for full size..

Overall route..

Foggy and cool early morning ride to work.
Nagging feeling that I really should fix the water system before leaving for 3 weeks..

Starting mileage

LOL, first roadside construction - on the way back home to fix the water..

A new filter and o ring will ensure msDcarver has water.

First stop - had to call Pops, other family issues going on... that's water under KrZy8 - from refilling my cooler thingie.

Tehachapi windmills.

NERDS 2011-08-12 Mesquite NV to Lochbuie CO

Didn't sleep all that well last night. Oh well. Todays route is Mesquite, NV to Lochbje, CO, 693 miles.

Klicky on pix for full size..

Route 2

Early AM light, readyh to roll.

The AZ sun awaits us..

Rocks

Utah!

Info - all slab...

RuhRoh Ollie...

Loving the higher speed limits.. Kali is so stupid.

Flat, boring, HOT!

I was there..

Allowed 80! The troopers were not too lenient about 87...

Pretty country..

Once a dirt whore, always one..

Breakfast nookerie!

Miles and miles of this stuff..

This guy was hammering his Harley pretty good..

Notice the 'No Vendor' sign?

Where bad guys escaped to.

Really, 392 miles before I can turn? No wonder RadioHowie runs car tires!

Self-induced freak out moment. I convinced myself the rear tire was going flat, so pulled off to see why KrZy8 was sluggish. Tire pressure OK.. maybe it's because I'm carrying 11.1 gallons of fuel, 45 pounds of tools and 50 pounds of booze?
I like using Tim's old topcase...

Prettiness.

Going down tha long lonesome highway, going to live life my way!

If your truck runs away, here is where you'll find it..

Western CO ain't so purty..

Unless you like dry stuff..

I do.

Train pix for my train enjineer Ralph!

Providing revenue..

Train tug-o-war..

No Name reststop. Really, that's the name.. No Name! Before Denver, before Vail and Breckenridge.

The temp cooled off with elevation..

Engineering feat - raised westbound lane matches tunnel.

Vail, CO

Elevation is high..

Where the rich peeps play..

For an interstate, not bad!

Eisenhower tunnel.

Got a bud named George, where has beer boy been anyway?

Coppers everywhere!

Sunset..and I'm tired.

Edit - ended up staying in Brighton, not Lochbuie, due to lack of rooms..

My back continues to really bother me. IcyHot and lots of Ibuprofen barely dent it.
Going to press on though - gotta see Stowe VT!

Go Donny go go!!!

Hey man doing good so far eh? Sure suks your back is screwed up, hope today finds it a bit better for ya.

I'll make sure to trim Dolly's feet and find some soft slippers for her. I think she'd be willing to walk on your back and loosen it up for ya.

Be safe man.

Forget the wemin.. Where's me sheep?

..now that's a TRUE friend!  smiley

Bust - remind me.. did you email or pm your addie info to me?

I've ate and slept since then....

Forget the wemin.. Where's me sheep?

How very kewel that you got Krazy8 back for the trip.

I'm lovin' the report!  Isn't Hwy 70 a pretty ride.  Awesome engineering through some great scenery.
Sorry about your back (Imagine how it will feel when Barry gets finished....wink

You might try forcing yourself into the Master Yoda position. enlightened  Arch your back!  I sometimes have to remind myself to do so because I get lazy and slouch when riding the supre-slab.

Just remember....you get to ride BACK through the desert. blush

Thanks Mike! Yeah, I've been doing mastah yodah all the way, but until today nothing really worked. Yes, I think I found the answer... lay down on the tank, stretch out the low back muscles. I angled the mirrors so I could cover my 6 while droning..

Today was much, much better.. I even made it farther than the agenda.. the weather was cool.. and that helped too.

Thanks for posting on the cba site!

Who says Nebraska and Iowa are boring?
Really, looking at the map and hearing horror stories.. I was dreading today's ride.

I stayed last night in Brighton, CO, at a Best Western that reminded me of a typical former WFO meet. Multi-story monolith buliding, but Rhonda at the front desk was way cool, let me reserve a room wo credit card then let me park KrZy8 right at the door.

Took off from Brighton, not Louchbie.. there are no hotels in Louchbie...

Starting mileage..

Good hotel.. Nice peeps, at 87 bucks a deal.

They even let me park under cover and watchful eye...

Glorious cool morning.. cloudy, cool.

Revooners at work... It seems to me that the higher the allowed limit, the less tolerasant of speeding the LEO's are.. I was running 80 at posted 75, this guy, just ahead of me, got busted at 83.

This reminds me of the Zzyzy road in CA..

Trailered bikes.. my gawd. So many Harleys.. and even Triumphs..

Better get used this scenery when travelling istate in NE..

Whooee - something to see! A crop duster doing his thing! I tried to entice him into a top speed run.. made contact with him, waved him on, he wagged wings then dumped pesticide... oh well, I tried.

Weather? Not yet, thankfully! I left my rain gloves at home..

I just love pix of my cockpit.

Is this a nooklear power plant? I seem to recall there is one in NE.. Calloway?

I stopped at a rest stop for my Ibuprofen.. and was happy I did. It was pretty cool.

I was fascinated reading about the early pioneers who crossed this on foot, horse, wagon.. To think it was taking me forever when running at 75?

Gott figure out what plant this is..

Yeah, I like power plants. I like energy. I like watching TV and having AC. Screw you that don't.

Self portrait.. I am really having a wonderful ride and time. I am so fortunate. So many know have died early, or are seriously ill, or can't afford 3 weeks on the road. I count my blessings.

I like the guy on mower behind me.. He was cool. He say the FJR, mowed a straight line over to it, stopped, gave the the thumbs up, adjusted his ear muffs, and mowed away. Notice the arthritic hand that's hurting in this pix?

OK then, I got to get my RANT on. Bikers in the US are STUPID. Apparently, UT, CO, NE, IA don't have helemt laws. I did not see ONE rider fully equipped as I across these states. This guy.. he would not even look at me. Turned his head as if I was some kind of dog tramp. I just don't get it. Most 'riders' are t-shirt,  shorts, sandals, no helmet, doorag, sun glasses. I guess it's a damn good thing the roads don't have curves. Nice sandals, doode. :fuck:

I have no clue what this...

Lots of road construction..

DC volts on KrZy8 still good!

Rydahog when driving a cage? Give me a fuckin' break.

How is is this for riding gear? Oh, they have THREE wheels, what could go wrong, right?

Andrew, oh Andrew.

The loud handle, the rider, the blur. I like it.

Lincoln, NE - I liked this city. Does it snow here?

My view from the dcarvermasteryoda position..

x Into Iowa.. Very impressed with Iowa so far. The corn, growing thick as bamboo.. On terraced hillsides, curved rows. How do they grain drill the seed on a contour? They must use trackers, not wheeled tractors. The corn looked very cool, arcing and curving on undulating hillsides. Most impressive.

No clue why this pix is here..

Windmills! What Kali rider would ever guess windmills existed somewhre else than Tehachipik CA?

I like power plants, all forms, sizes and shapes - not just nuclear.

Farm fields and power. Perfect. Energy for body and soul.

My lodging tonight. 40 bucks. Internet. Fairlhy clean.. :)

Final numbers..

Really takes alot of work. Pix selection, resizing, uploading, code change.. but it is kind of fun..

dcarver got snubbed by a Harley dood! cheeky
Seeeee....it ain't jist are manginations...it reely does happin!

Great report, Don, and I'm glad you're safe and can enjoy yourself.yes

That plant looks more like a processing facility.  Perhaps where they make corn sugar or some other corn product?

Arrrgh. In training for Dolly the sheep...

Musings

  1. Stayed in Stuart, IA last night.
  2. Iowa fair and straw poll are going on
  3. Lincoln NE looks like a nice town. Big, new looking, lots of construction on freeways into and out of town.
  4. I paid 44 dollars for my dive room last night
  5. Corn growing - IA farmers are amazing, the corn is growing bamboo thick on terraced and contoured hill sides. Looking at corn that is 6 foot tall, each stalk nearly exactly the same height, as the rows curve and arc up and down the terrain looks really cool. I wonder how they grain drill the seed?
  6. Stuart seems like a nice little town.
  7. In NE and IA, the fast food workers are white, speak English, are courteous and friendly.
  8. Heading east sucks - due to time changes I'm losing hours and light.
  9. Why do I keep waking up later and later when I should be on the road early in the cool of dawn?
  10. Poh-Poh are everywhere generating revenue..

Posting from Illinois, a Hardees!

  1. Carl's is called Hardees in this neck of the woods.
  2. I80 sucked this morning - lots of traffic, idiot drivers.
  3. Harley rule the road. Out of one.35 bazillion Harleys, I saw 3 'foreign' bikes.
  4. Whatever I paid for Cruise Control was worth DOUBLE the price.. really
  5. What day is today?
  6. When I close I my eyes at night I see a white line striping my brain.
  7. Gas stations have funny names here like 'Becks' which is really BP.
  8. I'm eating way too much hamburger on this trip..
  9. Humidity isn't just a fictional tale told by 'right coasters' to naieve 'left coasters'
  10. Bikini-clad chicks driving top-down convertibles make a biker smile.
  11. Sturgis is either over or starting - judging by the number of trailer queen Harley's I've seen.
  12. So happy to be on the FJR - what a great mile-eater she is!

Yet no pictures of these bikini girls? I've seen 'em topless, hell I've seen 'en naked.

The section of 94 you'll be taking tomorrow provided me eith plenty of eye candy like that when I was driving truck years back.

Not sure aboot Sturgis... Most of the harleys have left town here. I'll wait a spell as some should be returning shortly an ask. smiley Now grab half a dozen beers and aclimate yourself to the altitude.

Then again judging by the multiple post regarding you off the forum... Maybe you already have.

Geesh.. time to call SkooterG

I posted up for you on the forum.. No thanks necessary .  :)

Forget the wemin.. Where's me sheep?

It must have been the ISP - I was able to logon from the Holiday Express in Michigan City..

Well, I've triaged the pix, resized and cropped, got the text all ready... but the Holiday Inn Express network won't allow FTP so I'm screwed and tattooed as they say... for now!

Sometimes, being a computer geek is good! Can't and won't tell you how I broke the FW at HI Xpress..

My time in Stewat, IA, has been fun but now it's to ride. Starting data.

NOTE - click pix for big high res foto.

I had some, uh, altitude sickness this AM. But when I talked it over with BUST, he said it was because I was at LOWER altitude than normal, too much oxygen!

The high dollar 'Motel'. Someday, the Pickers crew will want this sign, Americana at it's best..

Thankfully, because of my big day yesterday, today will NOT be a 700+ day.

John Deere and the mid-west go hand in hand.

Different view.

Some of the trucks stopped for an overnighter never turned the engines off. Music to this motoheads, ears..

What's up with all these towers? Water, I imagine. Maybe it's so the locals know where they are - the city is always painted on the tower. Reminds me of the the 'That 70s show', at Point Place...
Here is De Soto..

Urbanda?

Altoo??

Chase this thread with me.. ATGATT? NOT!

Nice.

What the hell is this? Taken at a rest stop..

Windmill blades are huge..

Check out the flexie-flyer trailer!

Laughed to myself over this name.. What Cheer? Right Cheer, as in get on the, well, uh,cheer!

Check out the spare, it ain't going to work..

Don't see corn like this where I live..

Woot-Woot! KrZy8 just turned 70k on it's 3rd odo!

Nice Harley boots, bubba!

Pretty cool - approaching the Mighty MO..

Ready to launch - not as glorious of a bridge as Golden Gate, but my tires ARE dry...

Who is Nois, and why are they ill?

For old guys with sore backs. BTW, this new tube dispenser works really well. Did you know that IcyHot goes liquid at 104F?

Just across the Illinois state line, I80 E, I find a Carls, errr, Hardees.

Another Sturgis evacuee.

For Andrew.

I80 has lots of construction going on.. Some stretches were +18 miles long. That's a lot of sand and cement.

Taking pix of signage is a good way to let the vicarious CBA reader know where they are..

Ruh-Roh.. incoming county dollars...

Someone please tell me what/why they store water in these huge above grounds? Do these tanks gravity-feed the city?

Born to be wiiiild, born to be...

Nice protective gear, Homer!

No place I'd rather be than Morris?

I said pullover or I'll say PULL OVER again!

Really? It appears to me all states are upping the ticket quota..

Construction and bridges followed by more construction. Where the hel is all this money coming from for these huge projects?

NEW Lenox.. wonder where OLD Lenox when to?

I have to pee sooo bad.. but I ain't stopping in Harlem! Nope, not this white boy!

So I'm messing with the GPS, look up and OH CRAP what's THAT?

Harley biker babe, nice doo-rag helmet, pumpkin..

Her ridiing bud..

My first TOLL road - 60 cents. How the hell can they charge extra for a fed built road?

Here is how!

Into Michigan!

Every lighthouse has a story!

So proud of KrZy8

Just ove the MI state line, exit number 1, Visitor center..

This one for Bustanut! Shot taken in mirror...

It's been a long and good trip so far. Learning how to relax the back, ride 'light' and save the body. It's getting better all the time!

More to come later, tomorrow is a brand new day!

I80 through Chicago was a grind. Construction, idiot drivers. Felt very good to clear that place.. a SV650 rider, fully ATGATT, chased me for about 20 miles in traffic - good clean fast paced fun.

I wonder what he thought of the piggly FJR in traffic?

The Chicago construction has been going on for 20 years..  Serious!

Hell I think the only time I passed though there when something wasn't torn up was back in the summer '81.

Forget the wemin.. Where's me sheep?

Slept in, up at 8:30. Felt great. Still feel great! Off to jacuzzi and free breakfest.. The Holiday Ex is nice.

Had a nice ride to Bustanut's house - and Dolly is doing fine! We partied hearty, I slept in late... Mr and Mrs Bust have a nice place and they are two wack jobs, perfect for each other!

Don,

When you planning on coming through Toronto??

I'm just off the 401 east of Toronto and am planning on getting outta here later today to visit friends in Kingston before heading to Ben & Jerry's on Tuesday for my birthday.

We just had our club's trail ride yesterday. It was my job to layout the event in the Ganaraska Forest and we gave the 145 riders that showed up 100 km (60 miles) of single-track to play on. It was good fun but now my back is sore from moving logs and junk off the trails for the last month.

We'll talk at Ed's at Tech Day if I don't see you on the road first.

Tell BeemerDon you saw a polar bear on the side of the 401 hitchhiking.

I'm in Belleville Canada tonight - saw your name on the gps (poi, fjr assistance list) and chuckled. Got a late start from Bustanuts house and stopped when I got tired.

We partied hearty...

"Tell Beemerdon you saw a polar bear on the side of the 401 hitchiking"

What's happened Bill yer bike break down?

Bwaaa!!!

Forget the wemin.. Where's me sheep?

Seein' as you slept at the express, you should be purdy smart right aboot now eh?

Forget the wemin.. Where's me sheep?

Wishing you dry roads that are traffic free for your odyssey.

The bug you found in the parking lot is a cicada.  Cicadas are a late summer tree bug that have a 13-17 year life cycle.  The name cicada means something like 'tree cricket' because their very loud song on hot summer days is cricket like.  They are totally harmless -- unless you hit one with your face shield up.  They commonly get up to 2 inches long.

The water towers you see are in fact water towers.  Water gets pumped up the towers sufficient to keep them full.  The height of the tower then supplies both water flow and pressure.  Towns often take pride in the only tall structure in wide open spaces and doll them up.  Something for you to contemplate as you drone down the  road:  These water towers are in places that can get as low as minus 40 degrees F, why don't they become big popsicles during the winter?

Got a late start from Bustanut's la casa - headed north into Canda, through Toronto, which was a mess - stop and go traffic, Oh Canada! traffics sucks just as bad as El-Lay-Land.

Holed up tonight in Belleville Canada - Best Western. Hoping for an early start tomorrow to make tech day at FJREds...

Had an excellent St Louis rib dinner... yummie.

Got to pound out he final miles to Stowe..

Here I is, Stowe, VT! Longer than expected to make it here -  but the east coasters are fun, when you can understand them..  I swear, the guy at the gas station was speaking English but I couldn't get a word of it..

..just nod and smile...

We rode straight to FJREds house, I changed oil - what a nice house and warm heart that man has - krZy8 reallly appreciated the new dino..

More later  - off to a bbq at Ed's house..

Killer! Burgers, dawgs, two chili's... I'm now burping with the best of them!

So many new peeps...
