The WooFoo Report

After the Unofficial SS1k attempt (UOSS1K) http://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=24258 then the ride to WooFoo, http://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=24281 it was finally time to party it down with the FJR clan in Park City Utah.

I arrived Friday afternoon at the outside parking, tired and ready for a beer. Too bad for me, I was on the side stand for 2.3 minutes before the security agent informed me I was parking on hallowed ground and would have to move to the underground dungeon.

Turns out that corporate Yamaha had claimed the parking space, so off to the dungeon I went looking for some FJR folks who might be interested in a drink or two.. of course the first bloke I ran into was Fairlaner..

The next day, Saturday, I had business to take care of. My ancient Nokia 'brick' cell phone wasn't charging and needed a new 12vdc cord. The one I brought had let the smoke out earlier in the trip and I felt uncomfortable not having a cell phone life line in case of emergency. So off to Provo I went. This foto is between Park City and Provo.

This one too.

On the way back, Heber City had this neat train ride..

Quite by accident I discovered this little road, which CDog, Robin, had mapped for all of us out of towners.. Alpine Lake Road? I got lost several times, and off route, but I had a full tank of gas and could care less..

Somewhere, off route, I ran across this little dirt road and made the ride to the top.. only to turn back around since I wasn't sure where it would go.. ps – it looks much less mean in the foto than what it really is.. Several times the back was breaking loose and it was a, uhh, 'fun' ascent.

Sunday broke sunny and full of adventure. I was fully prepped to ride solo, my preference, due to a horrible group ride in 1975? that lead to many dead due to stupid freaking riders.

Of course, sometimes plans are made to be changed and as I walked to my bike, Petey, who I'd met last year at Reno, asked if I was up for a ride.. 'Sure, I said, where we going?' Petey stated he had a special ride planned but couldn't quite figure out how to program it into his gps, so an old-school ride this was to be.

Which is just fine by me; I figured I'd just trail this old skinny dude named Petey and his three Oklahoma buds then pass them all in the corners, take pix as they finally made their way around, and have a good time.

Well, I had a GREAT time, but let me tell ya'll that Petey and the OK contingent are true corner Hooligans. Petey and troops, in the flat, would never run 10 over the limit.. but let the corners begin and all limits are OFF baby. And I mean *seriously* off.

As in I was riding hard, still with a safety margin, but then decided in one corner to pull the camera out of the pocket and take a foto. That was it.. after that Petey and Paul? were gone, looooongg gone and I didn't even try to keep up.

I'm sorry, and apologize I don't recall the other OK hooligan who hung back with me out of pity, but I do appreciate at least having one FJR pilot to ride with.. BTW, Petey, at all of ~165 pounds with one piece Aerostich suit on, is one smooth rider. Every corner I could see his body shift, the shoulder lead, the hips rotate in the saddle..and never would the bike pertubate..

Truly a fun and fast ride, and I didn't get enough pix due to the speed factor. Thanks Petey and the OK hooligans, I had a GREAT ride with ya'll.

Start of the Petey ride

Finally, a straight where I can get the camera out..

Peteys' bud.. Who are you? Confess up..

All them OK boyz look the same..

Except for Mr. Red Rider, Petey

At one of the breaks, I took a photo of these guyz. Truly great riders and I would ride with them anywhere, anytime.

Happiness is rain in the rear view mirror.

And color too

On the way home to Park City.. almost there.

Parking the bike in the dungeon, I ran across my bud ToeCutter.

I decided to not sit with folks I already knew, to meet some new folks.. I mean, I can see TWN and Toe and Mad Mike and JB etc pretty much year long. But how many times can I meet ya'll who rode all the way from BFE? Too bad I have no idea who's at my table..

Now this guy, TurboDave, is my hero. And I say that un-ashamedly. When I was first looking to get an FJR, I met the guyz at the 'Gathering of the Clans' at Avila Beach. I met Dave, he offered to let me ride his bike.. me, a complete frickin' stranger, and at that moment I knew Dave was one tough, wise, and crafty ol' codger. Given the fact he does more at his age than I do at 50 cements his place in my hero book. Besides, this guy is the genuine article, and a rare breed in today's namby-pamby politically-correct girlie-man world.

Speaking of gurlie men..See what I mean? Just kidding guyz, you rock.

The rowdy table at WFO6. I mean, I mean, your honor, just look at these derelicts of society! I'm pretty sure they are the true culprits responsible for the massacre Arlo wrote about..

And here are two incredibly nice, honest, and decent people. Dave and Sylvia from the Northern reaches of our Americas. These folks are good people. Last year, Dave won a SuperBrace at the raffle. Dave already had one, so he *gave* me his new prize. That SB is on my bike today! Thanks Dave!

To be continued..The ride home.
