2024-03-20 Kz Carb Sync Attempt and No Leaks

Attempted a carb sync after lots of work including new coils, ballast resistor removal, valve adjust, starter clutch fix etc.

Happy to say the bike fired right up..

But it has a high and sticking idle.

. Checked throttle cables, they have slack

. Choke high idle adjusted so it's not in play, cam has air gap to followe

. Must be one of the link rods is adjusted too tight from the 'bench' sync?

From the FSM

To synchronize carburetors:

-Stop the engine.
-Loosen the locknuts (3) of
the balance adjusting

screws.
-Turn each adjusting screw in until it seats lightly, and

then back it out 1112 turns.
NOTE: Carburetor synchronization should be adjusted by turning the balance adjusting screws within the range between
112 '" 2112 turned back position. If the adjusting screws are turned in exceeding the range, the operation of the link mechanism may become stiff. If the adjust- ing screws are turned out exceeding the range, the link mechanism may have play.
-Start the engine and adjust
idle speed, use the balance

adjuster (special tool) to alter the balance adjusting screw position. Adjust to a difference in readings which is less than the specified value.

The good news is that the water pump seal is sealing! Yes!

As is the valve cover gasket. Yes!

As are all these orfices! Yes!

Off to try a sync again.

Both my 1979 OEM cables are the same length. 72mm from sheath end to lead ball end IOW, inner cable length. Zed parts length is 60 mm.

...and the problem gets worse and worse. I'm regretting send two sets of carbs off to the so-called expert. The first set had inlet fuel needles with 'trapped' clips not allowing any fuel. All 3 bowls. Fixed it and checked fuel height using wet method.

Installed, bike runs like crap. (the previous video). Looked at pilot jets. They were returned with settings from .5 turns to close all the way to 3.25 and everything in-between.

WORSE YET, #4 is completely buggered. It will not turn. It's been run in with bad threads. Applying more torque will simply end up with stripped threads.

Pulled that carb set off and installed my eBay carbs that the same 'pro' worked on. It starts and runs great for about 30 seconds then runs like crap again.

Then noticed that #1 carb is overflowing. Put the wet tester on it and the fuel level is way above throat bottom.

Sigh.
