On the last couple of rides, noticed the headlight was sometimes on it sometimes often sometimes flickering.
Opening up the headlight shell, didn't see anything obviously wrong. So I replaced the battery, as it was down to less than 5 V. Installed a new one and the headlight worked great. Good for me.
Went for a ride, came back and noticed that the headlight was once again not working. Crap. And this was with the new battery.
Let's open it up again and see what we can find.

Long story short, I found a stray brown wire with the conductor exposed. My friend, a really good BMW tech,
Don Wreyford, said Brown should be ground. I checked with a volt meter and it is.
EDIT - Wrong, oh Buffalo Breath!
This means that that loose brown wire with exposed conductor must've been intermittently contacting a 12 V point.
Earlier, I had noticed that the SAE connection from the battery to the wiring harness was quite warm.
Now I know it was because of the intermittent short.
They old battery was really just fine, no problems. It just had a low voltage because of the short.

I am pretty sure this is not OEM color-coded wiring.

Don Wreyford sent me this info.

Another pic of wiring.
