2012-09-10 Rueben Run, La Pine or Bust!

I know it's not been *that* long since my last ride.

But wait, when was it? Where did I go? Can't recall.

Oh, yeah, it was Castelgar, BC, for NAFO, on Wabs.

Now that KrZy8 is ready, after fixing a charging circuit problem and broken sub frame, can't begin to describe how happy I am to be on a rocket ship again.

Kind of a tough time to go though-

  • Busiest time of year at work
  • Big Tim TwoWheelNut bash in the plans
  • Ionbeam and Helen the weekend after that
  • Septic system to be replaced when return
  • Roof to be redone when return
  • Water system looking ugly at the moment, lots of air in the line from the deep well pump <cack>

What's a peep to do?

Ride baby!

Hey, ever watch Sanford and Son?

540 miles 1 15 minute stop.
True Candy Butt Association stuff right there I tell yah!

Stopped in Patterson. The Aux tank is working well, and the new engine sings.

The Quality Inn in Weed sucked. The Spa is broken, and they gave me an ADA room meaning the shower sucked. Had to bend over to get my head wet, and the water didn't get hot until afer 8 minutes of running. My stupid Trap muscle hurts and I was soo looking forward to the spa. Oh well. Call the Waaaamublance now!

Leaving SLO, darn glad I'm heading North not South.. Rarely do we have traffic like this..

41, East of Paso Robles, and finally 'Death Alley' is getting widened. First heard of this project back in 1991...

This is one serious trailer queen. Check out the custom ramp. Look closer, this guy hauls bikes for a living.

What can I say? I5 from SLO to Sacramento is one of the most boring roads in the world. Any diversion is welcome. Like Jay and his 53 whatever the car is..

Big moment, hitting 85k on the 3rd odo!

and 10k of riding this summer!

This pix taken for all my Liberuhl fiends..

At days end, we're all Americans. Wish more peeps knew and respected that.

Egads and fish eggs, 5:30 rolls around early!

Arrive at Rays about 10:30, immediately start ripping KrZ8Eh apart.

Finish up around 7:30 pm, head to hotel, in dark.  Meet Ray, Patti, Kam, at lobby.  Dinner at Gordys, a truck stop, only thing open!

back to hotel and in the spa I go...

Downtown Weed welcomes you!

Is it not good when, right behind the big ol' Hello to Weed' sign, another sign sez 'For sale, outta bizness, outta here?'

Hiway 97 north of Weed, and it's chilly. The best part of having heated gear? You can turn it off to see how cold you *would* be!

KrZy8, looking and running good!

Do you believe it? Jay again!

I love the smell of wood burning in the morning!

Beautiful downtown Dorris!

Finally, making a run for the border!

No idea where this is, sorry.

RuhRoh Ollie..

Broken front stay pictures..

Continental breakfast, shower, then off to laundromat.  Middle East in uproar over stupid ass movie. Nuke them all I say, wait a year, plant a Chevron sign.

FJR's start to arrive at the Best Western in La Pine.

Including fast 03 FJR's!

Dr. Rich and his best bud Old Michael await dinner at the Home Depot restaurant.

What an interesting mix of peeps is involved.. R to L, Ray, Patti, Michael, ??, and Steve.

Old Michael showing nose hairs and that he could ride an ape hangar chopper.

Where did the pony tail go?

Back at the hotel, the BS continues. FjRay ain't buying none of Jer's story.

Jer likes Pot! Who knew?

MEM cleans up BeemerDons. He needs help like this, trust me.

Oh, man, look at her. I want her sooo bad. I wonder if anyone is noticing? Or taking a picture? No, no one is looking! Hubba Bubba!

Dang, just escaped that one! Wonder where he is now? Geesh, that guy is like strange! I need normal peeps!

Hi Honey, all is good, love yah! Fairlaner on the cellie.

Mem, with BustanutJoker lurking!

From the hotel window.

ExskiBum is in the house! Power to the People, I say! Right ON!

They call me Rich, Mr. ExSkiBum to you!

Steve and Cindy, two true great peeps!

EscapeArtist George and ???

Identify why this pix is important and win the prize!

I think I have a copyright lawsuit here...

At the Harvest Depot, peeps be chewing down.

Ray done good, real good! What an endeavor, and he and family pulled it off. Truly amazing. 50 bikes or so?

The reason HotRodZilla was allowed to attend.

Tom in Ca hogs it down while other peeps play camera shy.

JoeBob from Az, Aichu, Dr. Rich and HotRodZilla shows good form with food. Jeesh, AJ, didn't momma teach you manners?

Jennifer, and peeps I don't know.

Caption HotRodZilla and or photoChop it and win a big prize!

FjRay wonders how many Rubens can an Fjr Peep eat if an Fjr peep Peeped a 100 Ruebens?

EscapeArtist George gets ready to leave. Don't know the other feller. Post up let me know?

Fred, IIRC.

Sunday morning, all the peeps are leaving me!

Jer says so long for now! We freaked him out by turning the on off switch to off.. He tried to start the bike and nothing! LOL. Gotcha Jer!

I like this picture. It's honest and true. Two peeps, unconnected but through the love of motobiking sincerely wish the other a good ride. Of course Doug, Bugnatr, bagged a deer later.

Oh crap, really, BustanutJoker Barry? You need instruction for how to install yer helmet, big guy?

Oh, it feels sooo good! Oh wait, that's my belly button not my dick!

MEM says, and I quote "Are you boys ready to ride, yet? Jeez, I've been suited up for hours and you dilly-dallers are just farting around! Let's GO"

On the way to Crater Lake.

Crater Lake lodge. Oh my the prices are high there. 9 bucks for a ham sammywich.

KrZy8 looking good and waiting to go..

Pano shot of Crater Lake..

Found a new camera setting - PopArt. I like it. Call me Donnie Warhol, thank you very much!

A 'normal' shot looking over Crater Lake. I enjoyed the time here. Quiet, and I knew the next journey to deal with arranging for Dad's final resting place, and convesations with him about it, were ahead of me, and I didn't look forward to it. I took solace in the moment, something I rarely do. For once, for then, I was only in the moment. Very nice. Need to be there more often.

PopArt mode and colorful pix..

Oops, not so good pix..

Pretty out here. I like it.

KrZy8 wants this road. This motobike is running so good now - new used engine, welded up sub frame, new front stay... she rocks.

Not so good pix of 'Welcome to La Pine'!

For my bud Dave, Highlander!

So then, La Pine DOES have a city or county peep whose job is to name street signs has a sense of humor!

and yes, I did look for a road named 'Van' for Dick Van Dyke boulevard, but alas, no..

Leaving La Pine, just past Ray's house, I feel, well, fortunate to have such good friends like Ray. We worked really hard to get KrZy8's front stay replaced, I then worked really hard to help fellow FJR peeps change tires in Ray's shop. It's all good. Very, very good.

Approaching Sisters, Oregon, a major fire. Terriority not burned in 200 years now on fire. In the early 2000's the pine beetle came through and sucked all the sap out of thousands of acres of pine trees. Roll on a decade or so, and you have a tinderbox of major proportions.

Some spots were down to 100 foot visibility.

Sisters, Oregon. Read in a paper that they have had fires every year for 10 years! So they are used to this.

I like this pix... KrZy8 and MacKenzie Pass in the smoke of a 200 year old tinder box fire..

McKenzie Pass. First ridden with my dead brother Darrell. Me, just after 2nd divorce. BMW R100 and D on an 84 GoldWing. Memories. Still thinking of Dad and Mom and final arrangements. How do I approach the conversation? The sign only seems very appropriate.. I carry on, at slow speeds. Coasting on the downhills, dreading the arrival to Keizer.

Sweet bike. After all the work, all the issues, all the miles, I know have nothing but smiles..

Me like me! Yes, sounds ego and all. But I believe in seeing the best in all peeps, and I am a peep too! So I allow myself to believe and like me.

Riding this road, I was thinking of PuppyChow, a rider downed and not recovered by FJR peeps he was with. I have no judgements.

McKenzie Pass heading West.

Stuck in the PopArt camera mode. Love the over-saturation. Reminds me of the old days..

Detroit Lake on 22W.
