2006-10-23 Just goin' for a Jalama Burger..

Last Monday, have the day off work. Noon time rolls around, enough of my chores are completed.. hmm. it's ONLY noon. I have 6 hours to play with... I'm outta here! Now, where to go? It's a nice, clear, warm fall day on the Central Kali coast.. the beach should be awesome. Hey, I've been wanting to scope out a potential camping place called Jalama beach.. I'm off!

South on the 101 to Lompoc then 4 miles south on twisty hiway 1 is the Jalama sign. Campground only 14 miles ahead. Twisty up and down 2 lane road crossing over several mountain ranges. The road is surrounded by the Cojo ranch, miles and miles of ocean ranch land. About 2 miles away, the first view of the Pacific opens up. Continuing down the hill, cross the railroad tracks, head North to the campground. Very nice, clean, and virtually empty. Dog friendly beach. Very isolated. Just to the North is Vandenberg AFB. You can see part of slick6, where they launch the big missiles, from from the campground. It would be bitchin' to see a launch that close.. especially at night.

And the chili burger? BIG. French fries? Crispy and even lager portioned than the burger. A nice little indoor deck with ocean view to enjoy the food and stay out of the wind. I'm going back with the camper and FJR soon.. Make Jalama the base camp then FJR around the surrounding hills..Cachuma, Santa Barbara, etc..

This might make a nice place for a clan gathering sometime..
