So I got on my FJR and rode it up into Idaho to see what one of these gatherings was like.
I shot up there on Wednesday last, and zoomed home Sunday. And took pictures.
Here we go.

Filling up at 2:30 am in Sacramento. No lines.

Up 80 in the dark, over the mountains, and down into ...

Wish I had a date...

And on out into the high desert on my way to wild, wacky, wonderful Winnemucca.
Incredibly, the sun came up .....in the east of all places!

There were scattered little storms here and there, as often happens east of the Sierras up here,
and with the sunrise, the sky took on some beautiful colors.
So I stopped for a pic or two.
No editing on this.

As I'm sure many of y'all have experienced, there are times when there is NOTHING better
than to be alone out there on your FJR.

But suddenly, the stillness and beauty were shattered by...

Moving along.
In what seemed like forever no time,
I was through Winnemucca, across vindictive, unfair Oregon, and entering...

...the host state for WFO 2009!

I skirted Boise and headed north on 55.
Sorry for some of the blurriness in these shots. They were even blurrier through my eyes. laugh.gif

Nice road - in the spots where there was none of this.

I love clean asphalt, pine trees, fresh air,...and of course beer. How about you guys?

McCall. Reminded my of Ouray or Silverton (CO), or one of those other expensive, manicured, playgrounds where everyone's got a cabin except me.

More ridin'.

Approaching Hell's Canyon.
Just like I like my women. (Hot and yawning.) biggrin.gif

Just 850 or so miles from my doorstep, and I was there!

After checking in, (6:30pm), I observed 4 or 5 bikes in the parking lot, all with WA plates. They were dirty.
It had been a long day, and being a senior, I figgered I'd take a nap before going down to the bar and
tearing this place UP!

I woke up at 4 am.
...To pee.

Be right back with the rest of this crap.

RIP, Don Stanley.

Okie dokie!
Thursday morning. Rested, cleaned up, and feeling gregarious!
So I left my room and had a look around.
I'd been asked by SacramentoMike to handle a raffle for the benefit of Tyler, so I proceeded to the registration
room to confer with RallyMaster Kaitsdad (Hal) about setting up my stuff for selling tickets etc.
I found him.

"Get away from me! No, I DON'T want to hear about CFR!"

Hal set me up, and I must say he's one of the nicest FJR folks you'll ever meet. I hope everyone appreciates the
work he (and his "staff") did in setting this thing up for us all to enjoy.

Hal, thanks for your kindness and encouragement.

(BTW, through the generosity of the attendees, almost $500 was raised to benefit Miss Tyler, as she fights through
what will be a long and painful recovery and rehab. I'll post big thanks and some details elsewhere in another thread.)

Okay. I wandered around a bit, waiting for folks to show. Slow at first.

But, they soon began arriving.

Here are a bunch of random pics I took on Friday and Saturday. I'm sure other forumites will be posting
tons of photos of the crowd, the dinners, the partying and fun. I hope so.
I'll back off on captioning for a bit, and just let the pictures give you an idea of the "flavor" of the event.

FJRay and HotbikeDave. A true "bromance."

I get a lot of this, but it don't stop me.

Stop!

The hotel location was ideal. Nice town, good roads nearby,
and tons of shopping and dining across the street.
I wandered over for lunch.

Hated it.

Like most Best Westerns, ours had microwaves and fridges in the rooms, and the supermarket across the parking lot
was a popular destination.
They even had a porn section.

Back at the ranch...

The elbow sequence?

Panman.
"I hope nobody sees me here."

Bust, I believe HotRodZilla asked me to split this gift with you.

Din-din Friday night. (As I said, there were cameras flashing all about, so I'm sure there'll be many more
pictures posted.)

In a minute, pics of some riding Saturday, and the run home Sunday.

RIP, Don Stanley.

Thanks for all the loving comments so far.

Okay. Saturday, I was going to join a group for a ride, but their start time was gonna be sort of late,
so I took off on a solo thing at sunrise. I'd ridden 12 across the state before, but hadn't been north of here,
so off I went.

Look at that sky. How can you sleep?!

The light in the early morning is of course great for taking piccies. Stuff looks better. And the air is cool.

Just out of Moscow.

Groovy barn.

Sat here for awhile. NO traffic. I coulda got naked.

Looked around this place for a bit, before heading farther north.

I took about 800 photos, and I'll get back and upload more of them later, and plug them into this report.
These are all I've got for now.
I had breakfast in Coeur d'Alene, (and my first cup of coffee - trying to quit blink.gif ), and then continued
up to Sandpoint. My plan was to go up around and out on Hwy. 200, past Lake Pend Oreille, and down
toward Missoula. New-to-me roads, and it was a beautiful day!

I swear, I'm gonna start carrying a fishing pole. Moving along.

Suddenly, just as I was getting into what I thought would be the twisty mountainous part of my ride, my
innards began to turn on me. Sudden extreme unpleasantness. I'll skip the details, but it was enough to turn me around
and send me on an express run back to the hotel. Hunkered down until morning.
Missed the Saturday night stuff entirely. Couldn't pull it off. I know. I suck.
Had I known there'd be pie....

Sunday morning, I felt only moderately crappy, but I figgered I'd better get on my bike and make the run, just in
case it didn't improve. So, at dawn, off I went, back to California.
I felt better out in the air, and took some more pictures. Here's the ride home.

I'd hoped to take a more scenic route, but opted to instead go directly back.

Sunrise, just south of Moscow.

I couldn't pass up a run down Lewiston Grade. Short but fun.

And on down the highway, LEO's be damned.

Back through Hell's Canyon.

Hadn't eaten since the day before, so I stopped for breakfast at this little gem in New Meadows.
Couldn't charm the stunning little waitress into coming home with me, but after my meal,
she gave me a warm send-off. biggrin.gif I love to travel.

Well, if you've ridden south from the Boise area to Winnemucca, and then back to Reno, you know it can be
a bit tedious.
So...I spent the next few hours playing with my Boostaroo amplified Garmin/Radio, and seeing how many different
ways I could point my camera while I rode.
So thus ends my ride report, with just these images of the road.

Somewhere in NV.

Got to my place just before dark,...........and hurriedly fired up my sleeping computer. A week with no forum
is more than a man can endure! laugh.gif

Glad I went. Especially good to meet a bunch of you guys I'd known only online.
Thanks everybody, for taking the time to look at this, and for commenting!
Very much appreciated.

RIP, Don Stanley.

Geez, now I really feel like a shill for bangin on your door Sat. nite with pie in hand, when you were probably ass down on the toilet, looking for all the relief you could find.

I've taken to carrying three pill assortments with me on long rides: Immodium, 222's, and Nexium just in case. You never know when the runs gonna strike ya.

It was nice to meet you in person, and looking forward to more ride reports. You need to make a proper visit up to the PNW and let the boys show you the cool back roads.
