2023-08-04 Wab Fuel Pp Bad
2007 Suzuki DL650A

Approx 100k on odo. OEM pp replaced under warranty at approx 10k.
Wabs has been short on power mid throttle to full, making passing difficult and dangerous.
Replaced plugs and air filter, no joy. Did some reading, most likely culprit is clogged or failing fuel pump.

A new fuel pump is almost $500. Found this one on eBay for $60.

Looks good, wires and soldering clean.

Connector and sending unit look good too.

Pic to determine correct orientation. This is OEM.

New pp installed. And it leaks, as in literally pours out from the outlet pipe.

My bet is either the 0-ring is missing or not installed.
The pp pumps, and the bike ran, but it's dumping raw gas right onto the exhaust header.
AND, the fuel gauge does not work.

I guess you get what you pay for.

OEM pump made by Mitsibushi.

So, time to return.

Parts needed -
1. Fuel pphttps://www.ebay.com/itm/404122833822. Part number 15100-27G00.

2. Retaining Clip - not to be found... not on parts fiche. Update - O'Reilleys had clip assortment. Part number 800-016. Worth a try.

3. Big O-ring -  not needed, good shape

Found this post.

"O'Reilly's Auto Parts sells these. You can take the clip out and use it rather than spending over $40 for a new fuel line.

2023-08-08 Wabs Fuel Pump strainer replaced

The eBay company didn't want the pump back. So I decided to use it as a parts queen, especially the strainer.

Pics of OEM for reassembly dimentia.. Witness marks and all.

Interesting the heat shrink isn't over the connector to provide strain relief.

Took some doing to 'break' the unit apart without breaking the unit.

Finally, the OEM strainer. Kinda out of focus. Not as bad as I was thinking...

Then again, who knows fuel flow margins on these pumps?

The 60 dollar China pump about to come apart.

NOT same quality as OEM. Solder blobs and oversolder from female to male pins made disassembly difficult.

...and this screw, secured by a pressed in plastic brass fitting is loose. The brass fitting that this.

New vs old.

Hmm. Full or Empty?

Opposite position.

Lead resistance.

New heat shrink.

..and the Dorman fuel clip worked purrrfect!

She pressurizers and idles just find.
Then again, so did the OEM pump..

Test ride soon to open throttle and see if she stumbles.

Total Success! Full power to Redline. WooHoo!

My fix didn't work so great on a hot day with 2 bars showing. Fuel starvation again at high rpm's.

Installed my eBay $200 pump and it seems to be good.

Also, the fuel clip, OEM, fits better than the aftermarket part discussed above.
