2024-03-21 Not Running Good at All after work - Ignition and Carbs

So did a ton of work, all at once. Got it assembled, and it runs like crap.

Work done -

  1. New ignition coils & wiring, ballast resistor removed
  2. Carbs rebuilt by WiredGeorge carbs
    1. 2022-11-17 Kz1300 New to Me Carb (WiredGeorge)

    2. 2024-02-14 Carb Linkage Adjustment (WiredGeorge)

    3. 2024-03-05 Kz1300 WiredGeorge Carb - Fuel Flow Blocked
    4. 2023-03-05 Kz1300 Fuel Height Check - WiredGeorge
    5. 2024-03-20 Kz Carb Sync (WiredGeorge) Attempt and No Leaks
  3. Starter motor clutch fixed
  4. 2024-03-15 Kz1300 Wiring, Carb, Start Switch, Throttle Cables

Symptoms/Behaviors

  • At first start, sounded great. Healthy. After a bit of running, sounded like lack of fuel, popping
  • Weak spark
  • eBay carb - #1 carb fuel oveflow
  •

Performed compression test. Butterflies wide open with top airbox cover removed. 5.9% spread, top to bottom.

Compression is SAT.

Cylinder Compression
1 170
2 160
3 170
4 165
5 170
6 165

From FSM page 242 did resistance check on pickup coils.
Acceptance criteria is 360 - 540 ohms.

Pick up coils are SAT.

Wire Pair Resistance
Yellow-Red 459
Blk-Blu 461
LiteGreen - Green 463

Did the spark test by applying voltage to ignitor wire pairs per FSM.

Coils Result
1-6 Could hear the plug 'pop' but no visible, strong spark.
2-5 Could hear the plug 'pop' but no visible, strong spark.
3-4 Could hear the plug 'pop' but no visible, strong spark.

Bad ignitor, or bad coils?

I remember Kawboy talking about different coil mounting,, grounded core vs ungrounded core.

More research / testing needed.
